ONTARIO MINISTRY OF RESEARCH & INNOVATION (MRI) POSTDOCTORAL FELLOWSHIP

The Postdoctoral Fellowship (PDF) program will provide outstanding scientists with two-year fellowships. The Program assists in the support of a Postdoctoral Fellow selected and appointed solely and independently by the Institution, to conduct research activities at the Institution’s premises as the PDF prepares for a full-time academic and/or research career.

The Ministry welcomes applications from all disciplines, however it encourages applications that align with priority areas outlined in the Ontario Innovation Agenda: bio-economy and clean technologies, advanced health technologies, pharmaceutical research and manufacturing, and digital media and information and communication technologies.

John Charles Polanyi Award

Up to five prizes, each valued at $20,000, are awarded annually to young researchers (postdoctoral fellows or junior faculty) in the broadly defined fields of Physics, Chemistry, Physiology or Medicine, Literature, and Economic Science. McMaster may submit up to three nominees in each category.

Food + Health Entrepreneurship Academy

The one-week intensive academy is open to science and engineering senior undergraduates, graduate students, post-doctoral researchers and faculty working on research in food technology, nutrition, health and wellness. The academy combines seminars and networking sessions in an innovative format to help you learn how to evaluate your research for potential commercial opportunities and explore industry applications for your research.

Why You Should Attend:

  • Explore commercial opportunities surrounding your technology
  • Develop a network of professionals in foods and health who can help mentor and connect you as you move forward with your career or new venture.

Accepted applicants receive fellowships to cover room, board and tuition. There is a $250 registration fee upon acceptance. Open to applicants from national and international universities.

The academy is taught by venture capitalists, entrepreneurs, faculty, industry executives and angel investors from across the country that serve as mentors as well as guest faculty, providing participants with the knowledge and networks needed for taking the next steps toward commercialization.

Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) Postdoctoral Fellowships

The Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) provides opportunities in universities or other research institutions in Japan for:
  • Postdoctoral researchers to conduct, under the guidance of their hosts, cooperative research with leading research groups;

CIFAR Junior Fellowship

The Junior Fellow Academy of the Canadian Institute for Advanced Research (CIFAR) offers unique opportunities for personal and professional growth through close collaboration with and mentorship from some of the best researchers in Canada and around the world. Held in conjunction with a university appointment, this fellowship is for a two year duration. Most typically, Junior Fellows work as postdoctoral fellows under the direct supervision of one or more CIFAR program members. In the social sciences and humanities disciplines, where postdoctoral fellowships are less common, Junior Fellows may hold a junior faculty position.

The E.B. Eastburn Postdoctoral Fellowship

Under the terms of a bequest to Hamilton Community Foundation by the late Eugene B. Eastburn, a two-year Fellowship will be awarded for full-time post-doctoral studies in engineering or the sciences (Natural or Physical sciences, including Health Sciences).

 

For the 2011-2013 Fellowship term, the total award will be $80,000, out of which the Fellow will be expected to pay all related travel, equipment, research and other expenses, as well as his/her own salary. A schedule of semi-annual payments will be arranged with the sponsoring institution on behalf of the Fellow.

The Canada-US Fulbright Program is a bi-national program of educational exchange, with a mandate to enhance mutual understanding between the people of Canada and the people of the United States of America. Available to graduate students, faculty, professionals and independent researchers, successful applicants conduct research, lecture, or enroll in formal academic programs in the United States.
