Postdoctoral Affairs

Welcome

McMaster University’s School of Graduate Studies established the Office of Postdoctoral Affairs and Research Training (OPART) in 2009. The fundamental mission of OPART is to provide support  and training to postdoctoral fellows at McMaster University.

OPART activities are directed by two full-time staff, the Assistant Dean, Graduate Student Life and Research Training and the Coordinator, OPART, with the support of a dozen other staff within the School of Graduate Studies.

OPART collaborates closely with a number of university departments including the Office of Alumni Affairs, Human Resources, the Centre for Leadership and Learning, the Centre for Continuing Education, the Office of Research Services, and the McMaster Industry Liaison Office, MITACS, and International Student Services.

In addition to formal training sessions and workshops, OPART hosts networking events for postdoctoral fellows, including an annual Postdoctoral Appreciation event as a part of National Postdoctoral Appreciation Week each September, though McMaster’s affiliation as one of only a handful of Canadian members of the National Postdoctoral Association.

Peter would be pleased to hear from current and potential postdocs in developing the activities and supports that OPART offers.
